Each year the Pinjarra Festival at Edenvale Precinct has been a huge success in early June.
The Murray Districts Historical Society had many happy Volunteers available throughout the Festival weekend at the Old Schoolmaster’s House so that visitors had interesting and informative experiences learning about the Peel history. Vince Taylor (Warder from Old Blythewood) brought along his fabulous old gramophone which encouraged many visitors to dance a jig down the path to our front door.
Our Volunteers also were available to ensure the recently restored St John’s Church was open to the public during the Pinjarra Festival weekend – then for further details of the early years of the church and some of its notable rectors, visitors were guided to the Old Schoolmaster’s House (through the lovely heritage rose gardens) to the Historic Society displays.

Visit us to view photos and stories of:
- the former timber towns of the Dwellingup / Dandalup regions: Holyoake, Banksiadale, Marrinup and Whittaker’s Mill.
- the history and evolution of the Exchange Hotel
- the history and restoration of the St John’s Church
- the history and re-use of the Pinjarra Courthouse
and many other photos and documents of the rich history of the Murray District.
DIARY NOTES:
The Society has planned a bus tour for Monday 8th July, departing St John’s Church Pinjarra at 9.00pm. We will travel via Forrest Highway to Bunbury, alighting at King Cottage Museum where we will enjoy local Bunbury history and morning tea as guests of the Bunbury Historical Society. King Cottage was built around 1880 by Henry King and was owned by his family until 1923 when it was sold to the Carlson family. In 1966 it was purchased by the city of Bunbury and subsequently leased to the Bunbury Historical Society. The rooms of the cottage are furnished to fit the period from the 1880’s to the 1950’s. The artefacts displayed – inside the house and within the grounds – are part of the Society’s collection reflecting the way of life for a family in Bunbury during that period.
The bus tour will conclude in Harvey where we will stop for lunch at Stirling Cottage (Harvey Visitors’ Centre) and visit the Harvey Internment Camp Memorial Shrine before returning to Pinjarra at approximately 4.30pm.
