Do You Know That?

As we continue our discovery of Pinjarra’s heritage buildings:

On the 2nd December, 1903, the Bunbury Herald reported:

On Saturday last, 28th inst., the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of their new hall was performed by the Freemasons in Pinjarra.  The stone was laid by Bro. the Hon. E McLarty, MLC. The new Masonic Hall is 48ft in length by 33 ft. wide, will have a handsome appearance and will cost when completed, without furniture, over £600, including £60 for purchase of the site on which the hall stands.

A group of Pinjarra men lead by John Pollard McLarty, John McNab, Alfred Thomas and William Warwick, purchased the land from the Church of England in 1903 for £55 for the new Pinjarra lodge – later known as Murray Lodge 69.

The Pinjarra Freemasons used this grand old building for nearly 100 years.

The Masonic Hall, situated on the south side of Pinjarra Road near the traffic lights, was purchased in 2009 and has been beautifully restored by its new owner.
