MURRAY DISTRICTS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Located at the Old Schoolmaster's House, Edenvale Heritage Precinct, Pinjarra.
Opening hours from 11am to 3pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Wednesday 9th August 2017
The 9th Annual General Meeting of the Murray Districts Historical Society was another successful evening for the Society with about 44 people in attendance. Guest Speaker and physician, Dr Fred Lovegrove, spoke to members and visitors on “The Life and (Pinjarra) Times of Dr Charles Lovegrove” – his great grandfather. Charles Lovegrove was District Medical Officer and Justice of the Peace in Pinjarra for 20 years from 1891. Charles’ daughter Anne married Ernest McLarty, eldest son of Edward McLarty of Edenvale. Descendants of Ernest McLarty still live and farm in the Pinjarra district.
Since 1868, successive Lovegrove doctors have worked in many country towns in Western Australia and have a history of service to medical practice, law, administration, military and community service. Thomas Henry Lovegrove was the first to arrive here from England as a Colonial Medical Officer to the Convict Establishment and he practised in Bunbury and Derby; Charles Lovegrove practised in Pinjarra (from 1891) and retired from Mundaring; and their brother Fred was the doctor in Dumbleyung, Tambellup and Yarloop, among other places.
