Stories and Structures : New Connections Art Exhibition – held during April:

The Murray Districts Historical Society thanks everyone who was involved with this noteworthy exhibition. It was extremely fortunate to be able to showcase to the people of our community. The exhibition was opened by MDHS President Penny Hoffman and Shire President David Bolt with 40 invited guests. The exhibition was a great success and was viewed by approximately 420 visitors.

A New Photographic Display – has been launched at the Old Schoolmaster’s House.

Visit us to view photos and stories of

  • the former timber towns of the Dwellingup / Dandalup regions: Holyoake, Banksiadale, Marrinup and Whittaker’s Mill.
  • the history and evolution of the Exchange Hotel
  • the history and restoration of the St John’s Church
  • the history and re-use of the Pinjarra Courthouse

and many other photos and documents of the rich history of the Murray District.

Opening of the Restored St John’s Church

St John’s Church was officially re-opened to the community on Thursday 30 May.  Congratulations to the Shire of Murray and all those community groups and founding family members who donated so generously to the St John’s restoration.  De-consecration followed the Diocese of Bunbury’s decision to gift the church to the Shire to ensure it continued to be used by the community.  The Church will be open to the public during the Pinjarra Festival weekend.  Note the beautiful stained glass windows and original furnishings – then for further details of the early years of the church and some of its notable rectors, visit the Historical Society at the Old Schoolmaster’s House, through the lovely heritage rose gardens.
